The energy flow in the chakras
The energy flow in the chakras

The purpose of this website is to provide useful information about the energy flow in the human chakra system. Chakras are energy centers in our bodies that influence our health on all levels – physical, emotional, mental and spiritual. If one of the chakras is blocked or out of balance it will have a negative impact on our overall health and manifest in a disturbance (disease) in our bodies.

Although the knowledge about chakras is thousands of years old they merely find consideration in western medicine. The most popular chakra system originates in Hinduism and was first mentioned about 600 B.C. in ancient Vedic texts, the Yoga Upanishads. In the Upanishads the chakras are described as psychic centers of consciousness in our body that influence our overall well-being.
There do exist other ancient chakra systems, i.e. in Tibetan Buddhism and in North American Shamanism, that differ slidely from the Hindu chakra system. As the latter is the most popular one in the Western World, it will be the main subject of this website.

According to the Hindu chakra system, there are seven main chakras and several minor chakras in the human body. All seven main chakras are alligned at the Nadi Sushuma (=central energy channel) that runs through our spinal cord. Nadis are considered to be channels in both the physical and the subtle human body, through which life force energy (=Prana) flows. This knowledge of the Nadis is applied by many eastern health sciences like TCM or Ayurveda. With regard to TCM the nadis comprise equivalents to the meridians, the energy channels that are worked on over i.e. Acupuncture or Shiatsu to restore the flow of Prana and support the healing process.

The way we experience life impacts the flow of energies through the nadis and the chakras. In order to remain healthy, they must remain open and unblocked. Painful life experiences can cause blockages in the nadis and chakras and will ultimately lead to health problems if not dissolved propperly.

At the bottom opening of the central channel is the first chakra located – the Root Chakra. Its energy vortex is pointing downwards towards the earth. Above the root chakra is the second, the Sacral Chakra located. The energy vortices of the sacral chakra point towards the front and towards the rear of the body, like the next five chakras up to the sixth chakra, which is called Third Eye Chakra. The two energy flow directions of the 2nd to 6th chakra correlate with future to present (front) and present to past (rear) influences. At the top opening of the central channel is the 7th chakra located – the Crown Chakra, with its energy vortex pointing upwards towards the sky. The root and the crown chakra are complement to each other, whereas the root chakra grounds us on earth and the crown chakra connects us with higher dimensions.

The chakra system is communicating with the body by governing biological processes in the endocrine and nervous systems, as well as the organs. Each chakra is paired with an endocrine gland and its relevant processes. If a chakra is unbalanced it will manifest this unbalance in the related gland or organs and disturb necessary biolical processes for our well-being.
